Felling in a mono culture of Ash with not even as much as a pigeons nest in it, on the top of the South Downs earlier this week using the traditional axe & saw method, although the tools used, compared to those used in the past, would be considered as little more than toys by the old boys who used to do this type of work up there in days gone by.
The stumps are left high on purpose, as at a later date another crew will visit the site and treat the ash with root killer, but to do this and for the chemical to work, they need a fresh cut.
